Professor Frederick Zimmerman Named Head of Population Health Organization. (rev. 1)

Frederick Zimmerman, professor of health policy and management in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been named president-elect of the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Sciences. Zimmerman will serve three years, first as president-elect, then as president in 2020, and finally as immediate past president. The association is North America’s professional society for researchers and practitioners interested in population health.

With expertise in institutional and behavioral economics, Zimmerman has studied the economic influences on population health, including the separate effects of the minimum wage, savings institutions, income inequality and food marketing. He has also researched the negative effects of media on child health, and one of his papers served as the basis for a lawsuit against a company that produced videos for infants.

Zimmerman is co-director of the UCLA Center for Health Advancement where he has developed a simulation model of the impact of health and social policy on social outcomes including population health and government finance
