A Health Dividend for America: The Opportunity Cost of Excess Medical Expenditures

The US spends $750 billion every year on medical care that does nothing to improve health. This money would be better spent on health-enhancing improvements to US education, infrastructure, rural development, and job training. All of these programs and more could be paid for by recapturing wasted medical expenditures, with enough money left over to achieve significant deficit reduction as well as over $1,300 annually in the pocket of every person in America. Redirecting wasted medical expenditures would be difficult but it would be transformative. The time to start trying is now.
