For drug companies, making shareholders happy is more important than treating the sick

William Comanor, professor of health policy and management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, was quoted in a Los Angeles Times column (Jan. 8) about pharmaceutical companies that hike the prices of widely used drugs.

Hypothetically speaking, if a drug company is sitting on a huge pile of cash, can it justify steadily hiking the price of a well-established medicine used by millions of people?
