With over 20 years in public health, Toni Yancey understands that kids (and the rest of us) need to move! The explosion of obesity in this country is a reflection of not only an unhealthy diet, but also a result of Americans' sedentary lifestyles. Dr. Yancey developed Instant Recess® to improve health and productivity by incorporating 10-minute activity breaks into the work or school day. Evidence shows it's a valuable tool in fighting the obesity epidemic, and growing your bottom line -- whether the bottom line is profits or academic performance.

Toni Yancey, MD, MPH is Professor, Department of Health Services, and Co-Director, UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity in the School of Public Health. Dr. Yancey serves on the Institute of Medicine's Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention, National Physical Activity Plan Coordinating Committee, Los Angeles County First Five Commission, and Boards of Directors of Action for Healthy Kids and the Partnership for a Healthier America, the non-profit supporting First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign. She also co-chairs Superintendent Tom Torlakson's and Governor Jerry Brown's Team California for Healthy Kids campaign. Dr. Yancey is a public health commentator for local NPR affiliate KPCC, and a published poet and spoken-word artist. She was recognized as the 2010 California State Assembly 47th District's Woman of the Year, and won this year's Weight of the Nation Pioneering Innovation Award from the Centers for Disease Control and American Public Health Association Award for Excellence. She is the author of Instant Recess: Building a Fit Nation 10 Minutes at a Time, from University of California Press.
